STAMFORD MUSEUM & NATURE CENTER
HOLIDAYS ON HECKSCHER FARM

This December, the Stamford Museum & Nature Center invites you to take a holiday from the holidays and come on up for a wintry stroll on Heckscher Farm, which will be decked out in holiday cheer. Join us between 4 pm and 7 pm, and enjoy the beautiful woodland setting, stop in our galleries, have a complimentary cup of hot cocoa, take a stroll down our luminary path and take a break from the hustle and bustle.

As a gift to the community, admission to SM&NC will be free for everyone on Fridays in December, with extended hours on Heckscher Farm until 7 pm. Then, at 7 pm come in from the cold to see “The Star of Bethlehem,” a scientific exploration of the possible astronomical explanations for the Star of Bethlehem, in the Observatory. At 8:30 pm resident astronomer, Charles Scovil, will open up the Observatory deck for some great night viewing. Join Stamford Museum & Nature Center for Holidays on Heckscher Farm on Fridays, December 5, 12, 19 and 26.

SM&NC has partnered with CT Transit to ensure that buses will run to this event. Please check www.cttransit.com for a schedule.

Pets in America is now open!

“If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog!”

Harry S. Truman

Stamford Museum & Nature Center’s latest exhibition, Pets in America, is open. The exhibition, which runs until February 1, 2009, explores the bond between people and animals and the history of pet-keeping.

Pets in America was developed by McKissick Museum of South Carolina, and is based on research by Professor Katherine C. Grier. The exhibition contains more than 300 objects, including pet attire; feeding and housing implements; pet remedies of all kinds; the very first bag of Kitty Litter; a mouse theatre; and a coat and collar made for President Roosevelt’s famous dog, Fala, on loan from F.D.R.’s Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park, New York.

Visitors to the museum will have the opportunity to share their own pet stories in the Museum’s “My Pet and I” section. They will be able to contribute images and stories of their own, which will be posted for everyone’s enjoyment.
