Built to Scale: Auto, Boat & Plane Model Masterpieces
Now Through October 29, 2006

This world class exhibition, featuring more than 90 of the finest transportation models ever assembled, is on display in the Bendel Mansion Museum. The highlight of the exhibition is an 18 foot, 1,500 pound, builder's model of the Titanic, which was built using the actual designer's notebook for the infamous luxury liner. Other historic models on display include a one of a kind Maserati T-61, a spectacularly detailed Spitfire airplane with numerous working parts, and a Ferrari-powered Hydroplane Racing Boat.

Teresa Barkley, A Life in Quilts
November 18, 2006 to March 17, 2007

Artist Teresa Barkley's exquisite quilts are highly praised by collectors, businesses, museums, and other cultural institutions. The elaborate creations offer a running commentary on American culture and express her insightful views on current events.

The exhibition showcases the best of Barkley's unique creations from her 35 year career.

August

Sink or Float Boat-A-Thon!
Saturday, August 12
10:15 to 11:45 AM

Children ages 6-12 will build their own boats out of a variety of natural materials and then see if they will sink or float. Boat designers will also have the chance, weather permitting, to race their watercraft down a segment of Poorhouse Creek. Pre-registration is required.

Family Music on the Meadow
Friday, August 25
6:30 to 9:30 PM

Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and enjoy a picnic dinner while listening to great music on the Meadow at the SM&NC. New York City based bluegrass band "Big Apple'achia" is the featured artist on Friday, August 25th. Admission is $5.00 per person.

Mini Soap Box Derby
Saturday, September 23
10:15 to 11:45 AM

Roll up your sleeves and get ready to design and build your very own model race car. Then watch as the wheels hit the road in a classic soap box derby. Open to children ages 6-12. Pre-registration is required.

October

Harvest Spooktacular
Saturday, October 22
11:00 AM to 4:00 PM

This annual event is a "scary" good time for the entire family. Walk through a haunted house, take a "spooky" hayride, or enjoy some of the many other fun, family events that will take place at the SM&NC. Wear your costume and save room to enjoy plenty of sweet Halloween treats.
