STAMFORD SENIOR CENTER: 9 ½ YEARS AND GOING STRONG! On July 5, 2006 the Stamford Senior Center dedicated “The International Wall of Stamford Senior Center.” The wall displays lovely pieces of arts and crafts from the countries of origin of our members and exemplifies the rich diversity in our community. The Senior Center has many multi-cultural programs. Some of these offerings include language classes to help seniors from Hispanic countries, Haiti and Russia improve their English, and to become American citizens. The Senior Center also conducts multi-cultural events on a monthly basis. In the past, it has offered Russian, Chinese New Year, Black History, Martin Luther King, Jr. Appreciation, Hispanic, Irish, Italian, Greek, and other such events. The Center also has events such as “Sharing Holidays of Light” in December, and Christians and Jews Share Passover and Easter in the spring. This International Wall is an outstanding and significant tribute to the many cultures represented in the membership at the Stamford Senior Center, and one that can be proudly observed at the Center by all residents of this community. It is indeed a focal point when visiting the Stamford Government Center. |
