During the summer, as school lets out and vacation plans are finalized, City government enters one of its busiest periods. Not only are we cleaning the beaches, patrolling neighborhoods, and running summer camps, and getting school projects done for the fall, we are also ending one fiscal year on June 30 and beginning the new one on July 1.
One part of this process that you probably have noticed is that tax bills go out. Other parts, like conducting our annual outside audit or bidding out projects approved for the new year, may be invisible to most citizens, but are also important. For all of us, the changing of one period to another is a great opportunity to assess the City’s fiscal position.
