THE FERGUSON LIBRARY HELPING STUDENTS SUCCEED
Whether your student needs homework help, access to research databases, or a quick answer to a reference question, The Ferguson Library is the place to go. The Ferguson has a strong partnership with Stamford’s schools, offering programs and services that support students from elementary through high school.
Online Homework Help The Library’s free online Homework Help service can be a lifesaver for kids struggling with everything from algebra to ancient Greece. Stamford students in grades 4 - 12 can log onto the Library’s website, www.fergusonlibrary.org, for live online tutoring sessions between 3 p.m. – 10 p.m. seven days a week. Students can use computers inside the Library or from home with a Ferguson Library card. Online homework help is available in math, science, social studies and English. Tutors don’t directly answer questions or solve problems, but help students find the answers for themselves. Look for the Live Homework Help link on the front page of our website.
The Ferguson also offers many other valuable online resources. They are all free with a Ferguson Library card and accessible 24/7 from any computer.
Online Databases The Ferguson has a rich collection of online databases, which can be of tremendous help to students working on a research project.
In addition to more than 70 databases from ICONN.org (Connecticut’s digital library), The Ferguson subscribes to JSTOR, the scholarly journal archive, which contains hundreds of journal articles from two dozen disciplines; and the Literature Resource Center, with full text journal articles, literary criticism, reviews, biographical information, and overviews on over 130,000 writers. Students can also find valuable information on Access Science, which provides a wealth of science reference materials from the latest edition of the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology.
Quick Reference Help And for quick reference questions at any time of day or night, students can contact a librarian through our Info Anytime service (also through our website). This is an interactive chat format, available 24/7, with a real live librarian at the other end.
These resources are all available free through our website, www.fergusonlibrary.org, with a Ferguson Library card. Of course, you and your children are always welcome to visit the Library or call and speak with a librarian for more information. |
