As you know, throughout my tenure, the City has aggressively sought ways to implement City wide energy efficient practices that have positioned Stamford as an environmental model for communities across the country to emulate. Our commitment to creating an energy efficient and healthy environment has been a top priority of my administration.
In June, the City took a significant step toward securing energy efficient practices when it enacted An Ordinance Adopting the City of Stamford Sustainable Development Design Standards. The ordinance requires that all new municipal buildings over 5,000 square feet meet the U.S. Green Building Council LEED Silver Standard – “LEED” stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Many municipalities across the country, like New York, Boston, and Chicago, require attainment of LEED standards for municipal buildings, but Stamford and Mansfield are the only municipalities in Connecticut to have enacted legislation to date.
