The mission of the Mayor's Youth Leadership Council (MYLC) is to promote safe schools and communities. MYLC, which is based at Stamford High School and includes 87 members, is one of the largest youth activism organizations in Connecticut.
MYLC uses three approaches to address teen dating violence and bullying: public awareness activities, volunteer programs and social change campaigns. Members meet twice a month to design and plan activities, which take place in school and around town, and map out the group's social change campaigns.
Members have authored legislation and testified in Hartford in support of bullying and teen dating violence laws and policies. MYLC's social change campaign for the 2011-2012 school year will focus on the bullying policy and protocol of the Stamford school district.
MYLC is the recipient of Connecticut's Educational Citizenship Award.
