Voter Registration And General Voting Information

You must be registered to vote in the town of your residence. Please note that your registration must be completed a certain amount of time before the election as explained on the Voter Application which is available below.

Download Voter Registration Form

You may print the form at home, fill it out and mail it to the Town Clerk's Office listed above. There is no need to deliver it to the Government Center in person. Mail-in applications may be used 1) to register as a new voter; 2) to change your address within Stamford 3) to change or register with a political party or 4) to change your name.

Please note that Connecticut law states that the voter must be a member of the political party holding the Primary in order to vote. Voters who are not members of a political party are considered “Unaffiliated” and are eligible to vote in general elections only.

You may call the Registrars Office for more information on voting, primaries, upcoming elections, polling places, registration deadlines, etc. at

(203) 977-4011 or (203) 977-4012. Also, for more information see the Registrars of Voters'web page.

Absentee Ballots

Registered voters who are unable to vote in person on Primary or Election day, may choose to vote by Absentee Ballot. Please note that these ballots are handled by the Town Clerk's Office, not the Registrars of Voters Office. Download the absentee ballot application form, complete it and return it to the Town Clerk's Office, P.O. Box 10152
Stamford, CT 06904.

After the application is processed, the actual Ballot is then mailed (or given personally) to the voter. A voter may request an Absentee Ballot Application at any time, however, the Absentee Ballot is not available until 30 days before a Primary or Election. The Ballot must be returned before the close of the polls on Primary or Election Day.

You may also choose to vote by Absentee Ballot, in person, at the Town Clerk’s Office any time during normal business hours, before Election Day.

Connecticut allows you to vote by Absentee Ballot for the following reasons only: 1) Absence from town; 2) Military service; 3) Illness; 4) Physical disability; 5) Religious tenets; 6) Service as an election official.

If you have questions or need more information on Absentee Ballots, please call (203) 977-5280.
