The oldest, most densely developed portions of Stamford qualify for assistance under HUD programs: Waterside, South End, West Side, and Center City.

In Stamford’s current economy, these neighborhood’s face fierce redevelopment pressure from business and ‘upscale’ residential/commercial developers. At the same time, they contain the greatest portion of Stamford’s ‘affordable’ housing, much of which needs renovation.

SCD provides funds to preserve and build new in these neighborhoods. The goal is to keep them vital, and a valuable resource for Stamford’s future.

Mayor Malloy has made it clear that Stamford’s future will include quality housing choices for all income levels. The funds available through SCD can help create these choices for those who are low and low moderate income.
