GENERAL INFORMATION
Construction of Water Mains
Contract work is underway on water main and service line construction on Hannah's Road, Larkspur Road, Cousins Road, Very Merry Road, Mary Joy Lane, Alma Rock Road, Haviland Road and High Ridge Road. Site restoration will be completed in the spring. This includes final paving of roads and driveway trenches, and restoration of yards to a condition that existed prior to water service line excavation.
Well Testing
We have completed sampling within the area bounded by Scofieldtown Road, High Ridge Road, the Bartlett Arboretum and Skymeadow Drive. Well testing has also been completed in the expanded test area north of Skymeadow Drive and in other areas around the former landfill site.
As of January 29, 2010, 34 homes have been found to have contamination. An outside firm, Environmental Analysis Corporation, has been retained by the City to conduct sampling and testing for the 34 homes with contaminated wells. The purposes of this testing are a) to verify the previous results, b) to test for metals, and c) to confirm filter operation by conducting pre- and post-filtration testing. Refer to testing map.
Carbon Filters
The State DEP has installed filters in any homes with contamination, and the City has coordinated installation of filters in nearby homes. Refer to the map indicating where filters have been installed.
Remediation of the landfill site
The City is in contract with TRC Environmental to complete an environmental investigation report of the Scofieldtown Park Area. That report includes installation of groundwater monitoring wells to enable a more complete groundwater analysis; ground-penetrating radar survey of the landfill itself; soil and surface water sampling; and recommendation of for future actions. Refer to status report of the TRC study
