Project Funding
The project is funded through Federal Transit Administration and the City of Stamford.
Project Location
South of railroad tracks, along Cherry Street and Jefferson Street between Elm Street and Canal Street; and extending with a new aesthetic facility through Dock Street to provide a direct link to the Stamford Transportation Center between Canal Street and Atlantic Street. Project Need
Provide a direct link south of the railroad tracks to the Stamford Transportation Center area from Elm Street, to improve traffic operations, safety, efficiency, and encourage public transportation and non-motorized modes of transportation to address current and future traffic needs.
Project Description
One mile long facility to provide direct connection to the Stamford Transportation Center south of the road tracks.
Travel lanes, high occupancy vehicle lanes, bus priority, traffic signals, bicycle way, sidewalks, and landscaping.
Estimated Total Project Cost is $ 65 million.
One of the travel lanes will be dedicated for the use of buses, taxis, private shuttle vehicles, and vehicles carrying more two or more persons.
Rights-of-Way
Rights-of-way requirements for the project affects approximately seventy one (71) properties along the proposed facility to accommodate the new direct link, widening, and the alignment. Click here for more information.

Environmental Process
FTA issued Finding Of No Significant Impact (FONSI) on April 4, 2003.
Final Design Approval
FTA has approved the City of Stamford's request to enter into Final Design for the Stamford Urban Transitway Project on August 20, 2003.
