The Internal Affairs Unit investigates police misconduct, municipal corruption and conducts the background investigations on new employees for the police department.  The unit answers directly to the Chief of Police.  The Complaint Form can be completed by a citizen and mailed to the Internal Affairs unit or brought in person to the unit.  Depending on the type of citizen complaint, the situation may be referred to the officer’s immediate supervisor and not handled directly by the Internal Affairs Unit.
