How do I obtain a copy of a police report?
Most police reports can be obtained within 3-5 business days from the date of the incident. In certain instances, such as an arrest, availability will be determined by the status of the case in court. When a report is available it may be picked up from the Records Division, located in the lobby of Police Headquarters; left of the main window. Record Room hours are:
- Monday 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM.
Records is now closed on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

How do I report my passport that was lost/stolen?
The first thing you must do is prove that you had a valid passport. In order to do this you must obtain a letter from the embassy, consulate, or agency that issued you the passport. This letter must meet the following criteria:
- typed on official letterhead (no photocopies)
- contain the issuing agency’s phone number, hours of operation, and an official who can validate the letter
- attest to the validity of the passport and contain any identifying numbers associated with the passport
After you have proven the validity of your passport, a report can be requested at the front desk.
How do I get my fingerprints taken?
The ID Bureau provides this service for Stamford residents. However, if you are currently employed or seeking employment in Stamford , you are also eligible to be fingerprinted. Fingerprints will be canceled without notice if a crime scene needs to be processed. No appointments are taken or required. Fingerprints are performed:

What are the criteria for reporting a bad check?
In order for the Stamford Police Department to take action regarding a bad check several conditions must be met. Some of these are:
- The check must exceed $100.00
- The check must have been presented and/or accepted in Stamford The check was issued by a Stamford resident and mailed out of state
- The check must be stamped “Insufficient Funds” and “Do Not Redeposit” or holes must be punched in the check where the account number is printed. A stamp of “Account Closed” will also fulfill these requirements
- The complaint must be made to the Stamford Police within 90 days of receiving the check
