The purpose of the Department of Health and Social Services is to provide both information and services for ongoing health and social service issues and information on up to the minute information on current and pressing health and social service issues. The Department is headed by a physician who advises the department. In 1999 the department was reorganized so that now Social Services, Health and Welfare are all combined in order to increase effiency and effectiveness of the department.
