Environmental Health: Beaches And Shellfish Beds

The Stamford Health Department, Environmental Health and Inspections Division routinely obtains water samples from local beaches and shellfish beds to monitor water quality.

Shellfish beds at Cove and Westcott Cove are either open or closed for recreational shellfishing depending on water quality and rainfall amounts.

Beaches are sampled weekly during the summer season to monitor water quality and may be closed occasionally due to poor water quality and/or heavy rainfall.

You may call the Shellfish Hotline at (203) 977-5889 for information regarding the shellfish beds and call (203) 977-4384 for further information regarding Stamford beaches.
