To help save water, the Stamford Health Department urges residents to implement the following conservation measures: - Turn off water while shaving and brushing teeth.
- Have all leaky faucets and toilets repaired.
- Use low flow shower heads and water conserving toilets.
- While showering or washing hair, turn off water while lathering.
- Do not overfill the bathtub.
- A full tub holds 50 gallons of water, a lot more than many might need for bathing.
- Use a water level selector for washing clothes or wash only full loads.
- Wash only full loads of dishes in the dishwasher.
- Do not allow your water to run while rinsing dishes that are washed by hand.
- Do not wash cars during a water emergency.
Water Facts: - About 3% of the Earth's water is fresh and about three-fourths of that is in the Artic icecaps and glaciers.
- A person takes in about 16,000 gallons of water in his or her lifetime.
- Each person in the United States uses about 100 gallons of water every day.
- It takes about 80 gallons of water to make paper for one Sunday newspaper.
