Operation Safe Houses Task Force |
| "Operation Safe Houses" Task Force is the brainchild of Mayor Dannel P. Malloy and former Director of Public Safety, Health & Welfare, John C. Byrne. It is designed to ensure that high risk individuals are living in a safe, secure environment protected from exploitation. An interdepartmental collaboration of the Health Department Inspections Division, Division of Social Services, Fire Marshall's Office and the Police Department, the task force makes "sweeps" to random multifamily housing units focusing on safety and health code violations. | |
The Division of Social Services pays specific attention to family problems, including but not limited to health insurance, nutrition and the overall living conditions of the tenants. If the code violations are severe enough to call for the Health Department to condemn the living space, the tenants are displaced and the Uniform Relocation Act can be utilized. Emergency housing is then made available to the displaced tenants.
Emergency housing consists of a safe, temporary place until permanent housing can be located for the tenants.
