About the Shelter Director

Recipient of the 2009 Heroes Award

Labeled “Pioneer in Animal Control”, by The American Red Cross, Laurie is the recipient of the 2009 HEROES of Lower Fairfield County award.  Laurie will be presented this award in the category of Animal Rescue on April 2, 2009.

Laurie saved Forest, a disabled German Shepherd (left) from euthanasia and took him into her compassionate care, providing him with medical and physical therapy until his forever and loving home could be found.

Under Laurie’s direction, the shelter had a very successful 2008 finding homes for 392 animals.  The shelter was able to remain a no-kill facility, realizing a 97.3% adoption rate, the highest within the State of Connecticut municipal shelter system.

Laurie became the shelter’s manager in March 2005.  She has worked with animals since 1987.  She has worked as a Veterinary Technician, and as an Equine Hospital Manager. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Economics with a concentration in Management.  Ms. Hollywood lives in Newtown, CT with her husband Collin, 5 pound pups and 2 horses.
