Qualifications for voter registration in Connecticut are as follows: - You must be a United States citizen
- You must be a resident of a Connecticut town
- You must be at least 17 years old (you vote when you turn 18)
- You must not currently be convicted of a felony

Once the voter application card is received and processed by the Registrar of Voters of the town to which the voter requesting registration as a voter, a letter will be mailed out to the applicant listing his polling district. Applicants who live in another Connecticut town can mail their application directly to the Registrar of Voters of their town. All boxes on the application card should be complete. The other boxes marked as "optional for example, the telephone number (box 7) are not required to become a voter in Connecticut. Enrollment in a political party is optional as well. In Connecticut, we have two major parties: Republican and Democrat. Connecticut is a closed party primary state which means only people enrolled in a major party can participate in a party primary. If a person chooses not to affiliate with a party, they can leave the line blank or put in the word unaffiliated. However, at any time in the future, should a person decide to affiliate, their rights to become a party member will be immediate. Box 12: must be read by the applicant, signed and dated.
