Joseph Tarzia was first elected to the Board of Finance in 1987.  At the present time, he is the chairman(2009-2011)  He has served both as the Board's Chairman (1991-1993) and as its Vice Chairman (1993-1995). In 2007 Joe was re-elected to serve a record sixth term on the Board of Finance. His current term expires in 2011.

In 2003 Joe organized The Stamford Taxpayers Team, which led the fight to reduce the tax burden for all Stamford Taxpayers and provide additional Tax Relief for Stamford’s senior citizens.

Joe Tarzia has been relentless and untiring in his efforts to eliminate waste and mismanagement of our tax dollars. He is committed to greater accountability from city departments in behalf of Stamford Taxpayers.

Joe Tarzia holds a Bachelor of Science degree; a Master of Science degree; a Professional degree for advanced study in Administration and Supervision; and a Fulbright Scholar. Joe did graduate studies at the University of Perugia and the University of Rome, Italy. Mr. Tarzia is retired as the World Languages Department Head at Westhill High School.  He and his family reside in the Cove section of Stamford.
